Toxic is one of the most talked-about fetish parties in the Netherlands and the anchor of the Brabant fetish calendar. It is produced by RonaH Events, an events company whose stated approach — trendsetting, throwing traditions overboard, and a healthy pursuit of perfection — reads exactly like the party it is best known for. Toxic's own line is more direct: at Toxic every night is a different story, and if you are open to a new experience it is the place to be.

Its regular home is Time Out in Gemert, and the layout is unusually well developed for a fetish party. You park free at the venue's own car park and walk straight into a large changing room with XL lockers. Past the doorbitches is Time-Out square, with clothing and gadget stands, glitter and glamour girls and latex shiners on hand, a snack corner, and free fruit, ice cream, sweets and oysters all night. From there the building opens into separate worlds: The Discotheque, a deliberate revival of the classic Dutch discotheque with a huge light show and a proper sound system; The NXT, a dark, raw techno area; plus Café Touché and the club floor. A bondage workshop, an elaborate fetish photobooth and a masseuse run alongside.

The dress code is refreshingly precise. It has been lacquer, leather or latex for years, with imitation leather, datex and neoprene accepted too, and the rule of thumb is that an outfit must be at least 90 per cent of those materials — fishnet suits, lace bodies and tights all fit inside that. Topless outfits are allowed provided the nipples are covered, a compromise the organisers negotiated with the venue and explain openly, and they recommend buying from a proper fetish retailer so you know what you are actually wearing.

Two things to plan around: Toxic editions sell out fast — the organisers run a ticket alert list for exactly that reason — and they arrange bus transfers from hotels and campsites, which tells you how far people travel for it.
