Dungeon

The word describes the room, not who is in it. Clandestino BDSM in Barcelona lets four of them by the hour — Naked, Berkley, Wanda and Red — and says plainly on its own front page that it keeps no professional staff for sessions: you bring your own partner and your own plans. Fetish House in Melbourne, open since 2000, describes six fully equipped play rooms and offers them both for private hire and for a booked session with one of its own providers.

Fittings are the point. Clandestino lists forged-iron shackles, a punishment cell, a confinement cage and a Berkley horse among what its rooms hold; the equipment is the room's, while whips, restraints and toys are usually yours to bring.

In German-speaking countries the same space is normally called a Studio. Tartarus in Berlin and DAS Dominastudio in Hamburg both use that word and neither uses dungeon at all — DAS names its rooms instead, "der Fetisch Raum" and "die Klinik".
