PlayBiTheRules is a Michigan play-party group built around one thing the wider lifestyle scene often is not: bi-friendliness. Its own words are that it welcomes 'straight, bi, LGTBQIA+' and offers a safe place for men, women and trans guests, singles or couples, 'to meet and play amongst those who are comfortable with bi play happening around them'. Its house rules run to four words on the masthead — no drunks, no drama, no assholes.

The format is fixed. Two large connecting suites in a hotel by Detroit Metro Airport in Romulus, on the second Saturday of every month, run twice on the day: an afternoon session from 3 pm and an evening session from 8 pm. Attendance is deliberately small, generally twenty to thirty people, and single-male tickets sell out first.

A free profile on the group's own site is needed to attend, and a ticket must be bought in advance — the organiser stopped taking payment at the door because of no-shows. The hotel is disclosed by email the evening before, and room numbers on the day, to ticket holders only. Rates were advertised at around $75 for a single man, $50 a couple, $25 for a trans guest and $10 for a single woman when this page was written, with first-time couples offered half price; those are indications, confirmed at purchase.

The group provides fruit, meat and cheese, bottled water and light snacks, plus condoms and lube. Alcohol is bring-your-own and mixers are not supplied. There is a massage table with free full-body sensual non-sexual massage, and the group asks that consent be sought before any extra pair of hands joins in.
