Venus Envy is a feminist sex shop and bookstore on Barrington Street in downtown Halifax, queer and trans owned and run, open since 1998. It sells sex toys including vibrators, dildos and butt toys, pelvic health products, leather and rope, massage products, lube and safer-sex supplies, Pride gear and gender-affirming items such as binders and packers. Its book and zine selection covers sexual health, gender, feminism and social justice. The shop runs workshops on sex and social justice topics, and holds a sensory-friendly shopping hour on Sunday afternoons.

Friendly, welcoming+ bookstore in central Halifax with a great selection of inclusive literature! This bookstore/sex shop offers a wide range of products; staff are knowledgeable and available for any questions too (note that there is a mandatory mask policy in-store)!
A staff member went above and beyond to help me when they no longer carried the stock of a product. After determining that it was only discontinued because the manufacture stopped making it, the VE member STILL went looking for what might be left in stock globally and recommended the closest option to it (and even offering options they did not sell because they knew what I was trying to find).
If this is the service to a prospective customer, I look forward to giving them my business for a future purchase. Highly, highly recommend giving them a visit.
Venus Envy is more than just a store, it’s a little pocket of openness, expression, and community, and Halifax is lucky to have it.

Was able to find so many amazing books on queerness, feminism, and social justice. Love the discount shelf especially. I wish I had more room in my suitcase!
I also got lots of fun stickers. There was other really cool merch, I love that they have gender affirming items for sale.
The staff were also amazing! Super friendly, approachable, and really made me feel at home. Definitely a must visit place!
I love this place! They are so inclusive there is something for everyone, and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Great selection of books on a variety of topics, as well as lots of other things. Any question you might have will be answered. Definitely recommend!
