Prepago
🥂 AccompagnatoreColombian slang for a high-end sex worker. It is not neutral vocabulary: in Colombian press coverage the word carries a specific association with women kept by narcotraffickers in exchange for money and luxury.
That association is the part worth knowing, because it is what separates the word from a plain synonym for escort. Colombia's largest daily has used it in exactly that sense, and a Latin American slang dictionary's Colombian entry defines it as a sex worker of "high" rank, expensive, and paid for by traquetos — traffickers. Read it as loaded, not descriptive.
Colombian law on sex work is a separate matter and further advanced than most: our guide to the term covers the Constitutional Court ruling that recognised sex work as capable of forming an employment relationship. See "Prepago" in Colombia.
Frequently asked questions
Is prepago a neutral term?
No. It is slang, it marks the work as high-end, and in Colombian press coverage it carries a specific association with women kept by narcotraffickers.
Does it just mean escort?
Not quite. An escort listing anywhere might be described in neutral terms; prepago carries the extra connotation and is not interchangeable.
Where does the word come from?
It is the same Spanish word as "prepaid". A derivation from prepaid phone credit is commonly asserted, but neither source we read establishes it, so we do not state it as fact.
