Swingerclub Butterfly sits on Mühlberg at Obernberg am Inn in Upper Austria, two kilometres from the German border, and it pitches itself as an outing rather than a night out — somewhere to drive to, with the spa triangle at Bad Füssing, the Therme Geinberg or a well-known local dance venue on the way if you want to warm up first.

Arriving is meant to be easy. There is a large car park that cannot be seen into, and the building is roomy. At the door you are met by the owner or one of the staff and shown through to bright, generous changing rooms fitted with single and double lockers. The club's own advice for anyone nervous is simply to get changed — lingerie for the women, something presentable for the men — and come in.

The programme runs on themed evenings, and each one publishes its own dress code. Beyond that the house line is relaxed: wear what you feel good in.
