The Best Sex Clubs in Amsterdam (2026 Guide)

posted on 29/08/2026

Amsterdam has two completely different kinds of adult venue and visitors mix them up constantly. The erotic theatres in De Wallen are shows — you buy a ticket, you sit down, you watch. The sex clubs are outside the centre, they are private, and you are not there to watch anything.

Six are worth your evening, ranked below. Erotic Advisor carried 15 active Amsterdam venues in this category when the list was compiled on 29 August 2026. Work out which of the two you actually want before you book anything.

The six best sex clubs and erotic theatres in Amsterdam

What puts a venue at the top

We rank on what the room is actually good at, and on how honest it is about what you are buying — which in a city with this much tourist traffic is the thing that separates the good venues from the rest.

Casa Rosso takes first place. It is the best-known erotic theatre in Amsterdam, it is the largest and best-kept of the De Wallen venues, and it is comfortably the most welcoming to women and couples, who make up a good share of the audience on any given night. If you are going to one show, go to this one.

Moulin Rouge on Oudezijds Achterburgwal is second and runs a daily changing programme, so it rewards a second visit in a way the others do not. Bananenbar is third and is a different proposition entirely — smaller, louder, far more audience interaction, and much more of a stag-night room than a theatre.

Then the list changes category. Club Golden Key on Overtoom has been running since 1987 and is the most established of the private clubs, out in Oud-West rather than the centre. Club LV on Middenweg and Sameplace on Nassaukade complete the group, both well away from the tourist streets, which is rather the point of them.

Theatre or club — decide before you go

This is the distinction that ruins evenings. Casa Rosso, Moulin Rouge and Bananenbar are all within a few doors of each other on Oudezijds Achterburgwal in De Wallen. They sell tickets to a live show. You watch, you leave. They are busy, they are central and they are aimed squarely at visitors.

Golden Key, Club LV and Sameplace are not that. They are private clubs, they are a tram ride out from the centre, and you go to take part rather than to spectate. Prices work differently, the evening is longer, and turning up expecting a theatre show would be a category error.

Neither is better. They are simply not the same night, and the guides that lump them together are the reason people get it wrong.

What to know before you go

  • Decide theatre or club first. Everything else follows from that one choice.
  • The De Wallen theatres are ticketed and busy at weekends. Book ahead rather than queueing on the street.
  • Photography is banned in all of them and the ban is enforced firmly, including on the street outside the windows.
  • The private clubs are outside the centre. Check the tram or metro route and how you are getting back before you go.
  • Ask what is included before you pay. In the clubs the entry fee and what happens afterwards are separate things.
  • Card is normal everywhere, but carry some cash anyway.

If you are in Amsterdam for the window brothels rather than the clubs, our guide to window prostitution in De Wallen covers that side of the city, and the glossary explains window prostitution and a privéhuis, which is the Dutch format most often confused with a sex club.

Which is the best sex club in Amsterdam?

It depends which of the two kinds you want. For an erotic theatre show, Casa Rosso — it is the largest and best-kept of the De Wallen venues and the most comfortable for women and couples. For a private sex club, Golden Key on Overtoom, which has been running since 1987 and is the most established of them.

What is the difference between an erotic theatre and a sex club in Amsterdam?

A theatre sells you a ticket to watch a live show and you leave afterwards. Casa Rosso, Moulin Rouge and Bananenbar are all theatres and all sit within a few doors of each other in De Wallen. A sex club is a private venue outside the centre where guests take part rather than watch. Golden Key, Club LV and Sameplace are clubs. Turning up at one expecting the other is the most common mistake visitors make.

Can women and couples go?

Yes to all of these. Casa Rosso in particular draws a lot of groups of women and couples and is the most comfortable of the theatres for a mixed audience. The private clubs vary in how they handle single men versus couples, so check the venue's own site or call ahead.

Are the clubs in the Red Light District?

The three theatres are — Casa Rosso, Moulin Rouge and Bananenbar are all on Oudezijds Achterburgwal in De Wallen. The private clubs are not: Golden Key is in Oud-West, Club LV is on Middenweg and Sameplace is on Nassaukade, all a tram or metro ride from the centre.

How much does it cost?

It varies by venue and by night and they change it without notice, so treat any published figure as an indication until you confirm it. The theatres charge a ticket price at the door. In the private clubs, entry and whatever follows are separate costs, so ask what the entry fee actually includes before you pay it.

Can I take photos?

No. Photography is banned inside every venue on this list and the rule is enforced firmly. It is also not acceptable to photograph the windows in De Wallen, and doing so is the fastest way to have an unpleasant evening.
