Erotic Massage: The Formats Explained, and How to Read a Listing

Erotic massage is the broadest category on this site: 849 venues across 35 countries, more than any other format we list. It is also the one where the marketing language varies most, because a studio's menu is its shop window and the same session can be sold under several names.

The useful thing is that the format names are not interchangeable. Counting how often each appears in the venues we hold gives a reasonable picture of what is actually on offer: tantric in 226 listings, body-to-body in 208, nuru in 196, lingam in 125 and four-hands in 49. Those five cover most of what you will meet.

The formats, and what actually differs

  • Tantric — the most commonly advertised, and the slowest. Sessions are longer, structured around breathing and unhurried full-body touch, and they are the format most often sold to couples as well as individuals. Studios frequently pair it with lingam or yoni massage as a named add-on.
  • Body-to-body — the masseuse uses her body as well as her hands, in full contact. It is a physically different session rather than a more intense version of a conventional one, and it is usually priced above a standard massage.
  • Nuru — a body-to-body variant using a thick, odourless gel, traditionally made from seaweed, on a waterproof mat rather than a table. Almost always sold as its own item because it needs the mat and a shower.
  • Four-hands — two masseuses working simultaneously. The point is disorientation: you cannot track both sets of hands, which is the effect being sold.
  • Lingam and yoni — massage focused on the genitals specifically, named from Sanskrit and usually offered inside a tantric session rather than on its own.

Reading a listing before you book

  • A published menu of named formats with session lengths is a good sign. It means the venue is selling a defined service rather than leaving everything to be negotiated in the room.
  • A fixed address and a working phone number matter more than a polished website.
  • "Mat" or "shower" in the description usually indicates nuru is genuinely offered rather than just listed.
  • Couples sessions and couples rooms are stated explicitly when available — venues want that booking, so they advertise it.
  • Be sceptical of a venue that lists every format going with no detail on any of them.

Germany leads our listings with 177 erotic massage venues, then Spain with 105, Switzerland with 88 and Australia with 82. By city the order is different and more concentrated: Sydney with 42, then Barcelona and Berlin with 33 each, Prague with 32, Vienna 23, Madrid 21 and Melbourne 20.
