Club Sauvage is a members' club in Sants, Barcelona, and it puts a good deal of care into being a place rather than just a night out — its own line is that it is a sensory experience, a refuge where architecture, music and skin meet. Entry is for registered members or approved guests, over-18s only.

The layout is a route rather than a room. You arrive at a large cloakroom with personal lockers, and there are private showers for anyone who values the ritual of getting ready. From there the club opens into different play areas: open playrooms where the energy carries, and more private spaces for people who want intimacy on their own terms. On another level there is a room given over to fetish play, furnished to the same standard. The bar is the heart of it. Condoms, lubricant, towels and toiletries are provided in the rooms.

The door is selective and the rules are stated plainly. Couples and women have priority; single men come by invitation only, and some nights are couples-only or women-only, so the calendar matters. Phones are not allowed anywhere in the club and go into reception or a locker on the way in. The dress code is festive and considered — themed dress is compulsory at themed parties, and sportswear and flip-flops are refused. Consent underpins all of it: no means no, always, and looking is part of the atmosphere while touching without agreement is not. Drugs and aggression bring immediate expulsion.
