Townhouse is a swingers club in Birkenhead, on the Wirral and about five minutes from Liverpool city centre.

It is deliberately hard to spot: a large cream building on the corner of Union Street and Roslyn Street with no signage and a purposely scruffy exterior, which the club says is how its guests prefer it. Inside there is a ground floor with a licensed bar, play areas upstairs, private rooms and an outdoor space, along with a Snack Shack that stays open until one in the morning on the bigger nights.

It is not a dress-down club on arrival — the code is dress to impress, and dressing down only becomes expected upstairs after half past ten. Everything runs on pre-booked tickets, with no admission at the door, and the club opens to a rota rather than a weekly pattern: Thursday to Saturday evenings, the first Monday of the month in the daytime, two Tuesdays a month for socials, and occasional Sundays mainly given over to BDSM events. Photo ID is required on a first visit, and mobile phones are not allowed anywhere in the building.
